Let's take a visual walk through my hotel room at the All Stars Sports Resort in Walt Disney World.
My room is considered a Preferred room that is located in the Preferred buildings. For a few dollars less per night you can stay in the Standard rooms in the Standard buildings. The difference? The location and/or distance from the main building.
Each building has a name and theme that helps identify where your hotel room is. For example my room was located in the Surf's Up buildings. I had put in a request for 1st floor, pool view. When I had arrived earlier than the check in time of 3pm I was told my room that I requested wouldn't be ready until 3pm due to the carpet being cleaned and the drying time needed afterwards.
But I was given the option that a room on the 2nd floor with my request was ready right now, free of charge so I took it. If you don't have requests on which building or section you want then they will and can throw you all the way in to the back of the resort to help balance out the guests.
Just simply ask when you arrive at check in to be moved into a closer room, a different floor, a view preference based on what you paid for, etc. Disney does offer the ability to go straight to your hotel room assigned via a phone text that informs you your room is ready. Grab a map once at the resort to see where your room is and if you are not happy with the computer's placement of your family, then kindly head to the front desk to see what is available at your current arrival time.
